Eleanor Burt (Re-Shaping the Voluntary and Community Sectors in the
Information Age) was Research Fellow with the Centre for the Study of Telematics and
Governance (CSTAG), Glasgow Caledonian University (GCU), and Principal Researcher on the
Virtual Society? research project. Prior to joining CSTAG in October 1997, she spent three
years as Research Fellow with the Voluntary Sector Research Unit at GCU. She holds a PhD
and BA (Hons) First Class from Strathclyde Business School, together with the Association
of Management Education Scotland (AMETS) Certificate in Research Methods from Glasgow
University. She has expertise in project management, large scale survey research, and case
study research. Her disciplinary background in Organisation Theory provides the platform
for developing expertise in electronic democracy and governance. Her research interests
include both the extent to which Information and Communication Technologies (ICTs)
re-shape or reinforce governance relationships between the voluntary sector, civil
society, and the state, and the concept and development of 'virtual parliaments'.
