Mr Geoff McMullen

Photograph of Geoff McMullen Geoff McMullen (Advisory Committee) is Chief Executive of UKERNA, the company set up in 1993 by the Higher Education Funding Council for England, its equivalents in Scotland, N Ireland and Wales, and the Research Councils to provide network services to the tertiary academic and research communities in the UK.

Geoff's experience of Information Systems extends back some 35 years, and includes eleven years on the supply side of the industry, twenty years with Shell and four years in semi-retirement from 1993-7. In Shell, his jobs included being Group Head of Information Technology and General Manager of Information systems for Shell UK.

Geoff has a strong interest in IT and education extending over the last twenty years. He is Vice President for Professional Development of the British Computer Society, chair of its Professional Development Board and a member of its schools committee. He was chairman of the IT Industry National Training Organisation from 1994 to 1997, responsible for the creation of national standards for NVQs, GNVQs and Modern Apprenticeships in IT.

His outside interests include Youth Music, gardening and tennis.
