Graham Thomas (From the Net to the Web and Beyond: Actors and Interests in the Construction of the Internet) is a Senior Lecturer in the Department of Innovation Studies at the University of East London. He originally studied sociology, but since he started work in the area of science and technology studies he claims to have lost any discipline he might once have had. Before moving to East London he worked at SPRU (Science Policy Research Unit) at the University of Sussex, ultimately specialising in issues concerning the development and regulation of computing- and telecoms-based services. Previous research has focused on social and policy issues surrounding videotex, audiotex and so-called 'information superhighways'. He is a member of the London user group of the UK academic network, JANET, and was Chair of the group from 1994 to 1996.
