Sue Watt (Effects of Visual Anonymity in Computer Mediated Group Interactions) recently completed a PhD in social cognition at the University of Western Australia. She was the recipient of an Australian Postgraduate Research Award from 1993-1996. Before commencing her PhD, Sue worked as a psychologist for the Western Australian Police Service. Her work with police officers stimulated an interest in group behaviour - particularly in deindividuation (associated with anonymity in a group), group conformity, and impression formation. Her PhD research explored social categorization, where simulated social categories were presented on computers via the use of digitised videos and still images. Resulting from this research, a sequential model of social categorization was developed.
