|Peter Swann (Virtual Reality and the Innovation Potential of the
Organisation) is Professor of Economics and Management of Innovation at the University
of Manchester, a position he holds jointly in Manchester Business School and PREST.
Previously he worked at London Business School and Brunel University. Peter has four main
areas of active research at present: work on business applications of virtual reality (in
the Virtual Society? programme); research on the innovative performance of companies in
industrial clusters; research on the role of networks and standards in collective
invention; and work on the evolution of consumption patterns.
Peter has served as a Specialist Adviser to the House of Lords Select Committee on Science and Technology, a member of the DTI's Information Age Competitiveness Working Party, a Member of the Steering Group of the DTI's VR Forum, a member of the Research Advisory Board of the Design Council, and a visiting professor of economics at the University of Turin. He was co-ordinator of the ESRC initiative on 'New Technologies and the Firm', and was the founding and managing editor of the journal, Economics of Innovation and New Technology from 1989 to 1996.
